2016 Letter

Dear Lake Burton Resident,

My name is Hal Rhoad and along with my wife Page, we are second-generation homeowners on Lake Burton. For 30+ years I have volunteered my time annually to organize a professional fireworks display for the enjoyment of Lake Burton resident families, guests, and the Rabun County community. Because of community support, this show has grown tremendously over the years and become a must see event. With your help, let’s collectively have a great evening of fun and celebrate America’s Birthday!

The 2015 show was the largest show in our 30+ year history at $33,000 with $37,571 in donations. Total expenses were about $37,808 (see financials). We will stay at that size show for 2016.

The 2014 donor list printed, mailed, and posted on the website in 2015 was not accurate; it was actually the 2013 donors list due to a computer glitch. It took some digging to find the program error but it’s fixed and sincere apologies to those affected. The correct lists are now posted on our website.

I am working with Pyrotecnico to have a spectacular show with a mix of new shells and old favorites echoing off the mountains. That will push total expenses to about $38K so I need great participation from all our lake families in order to maintain this level of “spectacular.”

Individual contributions from our supporters are the only source of funds for this fireworks show; there has never been a corporate sponsor.  Full financial disclosure of income and expenses is archived on our website, www.lakeburtonfireworks.com under the Financials tab and included in the mailing.

We are again requesting a donation of $50/family (see contributors list) but are appreciative of whatever you choose to send. Many of you are exceptionally generous and it is very much appreciated by me and the entire lake community. You can donate through the website (don’t forget to solve the anti-spam equation) with a credit card via PayPal or send us a check per below.

This year’s show will be Saturday July 2nd, 2016.  It is always 9:30PM off Billy Goat Island. Our rain delay policy is that we delay the show up to 1 hour before deciding if we have to go to Sunday night July 5th, 2015. The set up, storage, and shooting crew issues make it very difficult to go to the following Saturday night.

Pyrotecnico, New Castle, PA www.pyrotecnico.com is again our show producer. They are one of the largest producers of fireworks displays in the world. They are fully insured via a $10M general liability policy and have an excellent safety record.

Let me again emphasize the importance of boating safety during this event.  Please, treat the lake as a NO WAKE ZONE the evening of the show. Slow down and enjoy the ride. Also, stay back from the shooting site at least 900 feet to avoid falling embers from the shells. Check your lights, life jackets, and fire extinguisher before idling to the show site.

Promotional assistance from the following organizations is really appreciated:
Special thanks again to the LBCA and Georgia Power Company for the rock rip-rap on Billy Goat Island at our shoot site! We were losing land and this saves this site hopefully for years to come!
West Rabun Property Owners, Charlie Brundage, President
Lake Burton Road Runners Club, sponsors of the Lake Burton Fun Run, founder Robert Nichols
Many thanks also to our Volunteer Fire Departments and the Mountain Patrol.

Don’t forget to visit our Facebook fan page, www.facebook.com/lakeburtonfireworks and leave a comment or send us a photo of your family celebrating the 4th of July on Lake Burton. Also, consider sending us an email at info@lakeburtonfireworks.com so that we may add you to our email list.

Thanks again for your generous support! Have a safe and memorable summer on beautiful Lake Burton!
